Converting A Broomall Home From Oil To Gas Heating

Case Study: Converting A Broomall Home From Oil To Gas Heating

Converting A Broomall Home From Oil To Gas HeatingFor almost three decades, this Broomall homeowner has trusted us here at John Cipollone Inc. to keep her home comfortable and efficient. She first became a customer back in 1996, when she inherited her family home from her mother. When she first moved in, she had to replace the heating and cooling system within the first few years, and she’d been using us for her home comfort needs ever since. Most recently, she took a big step — converting her home from oil to gas heating — and she couldn’t be happier with the results.

We’ve completed this kind of project many times in the past, and we were happy to help in this situation. We’ve been working in the area since 1953, and have seen many homes that switch from oil to gas, or gas to electric, etc. We know exactly what it takes to swap energy sources when it comes to powering your HVAC system, and ensuring you are choosing the right system for your home.

From Oil To Gas: A Big Change After Decades Of Comfort

After inheriting her mother’s house, this homeowner wanted to preserve the comfort she’d always known while making smart, long-term upgrades. For years, the home was heated by an oil system, and it worked well enough — but the oil tank took up space in the basement, required regular refills, and was becoming increasingly inefficient.

A few years ago, a gas line was installed on the street, giving her the option to connect her home to natural gas. Still, she hesitated. She had seen some of her neighbors make the switch to gas heating, and wasn’t sure if she was ready to make the change.

Her main concern was safety — she didn’t want to deal with any risks related to gas leaks or explosions.

Our team took the time to walk her through every step of the process, explaining how today’s gas systems are designed with multiple safety layers, automatic shut-offs, and high-efficiency performance. We assured her that she’d not only be safe, but would likely be thrilled with the comfort, energy savings, and extra space once the old oil tank was gone.

We are delighted to report that we were correct, and she’s very pleased with her new system!

The Installation: Efficient, Predictable, and Clean

Once she decided to move forward, our team created a plan to make the conversion as seamless as possible. Working with PECO, we coordinated the new gas line installation and scheduled the project to be completed in just two days.

Here’s what the project included:

  • Removal of the old oil furnace and oil tank
  • Installation of a new Carrier gas furnace
  • Installation of a new gas-fueled water heater
  • Addition of a UV light with a carbon cell to clean the air and prevent mold spores

The entire process went smoothly. Our technicians worked efficiently, safely, and left the basement clean and organized — now free from the bulky oil tank that had taken up valuable space for years.

The Results: Better Comfort, Lower Settings, More Space

Once the new gas system was up and running, the homeowner immediately noticed the difference. With her old oil heater, she often had to set the thermostat to 70 or 71 degrees, depending on the weather outside, just to feel comfortable. Now, she keeps her new Carrier gas furnace set to 68 degrees, and the comfort feels better than ever.

This improvement comes from the system’s increased efficiency — the old thermostat was losing efficiency, and simply not working as well as it did in the past. This causes the system to use too much oil, and the energy bills and comfort suffer as a result. The new furnace delivers consistent, balanced heat, so it reaches the temperature she wants without overworking.

The modern smart thermostat also helps by learning her daily patterns, keeping her cozy when she’s home, and conserving energy when she’s not.

And of course, one of the biggest surprises? The extra room in the basement. With the old oil tank gone, she couldn’t believe how much space was freed up for storage and organization. She knew it would make a difference, but until she saw the space without the tank there, she had no idea how much room she would have down in the basement for storage and a potential work space.

A Long Relationship Built On Trust

She’s thrilled with the transformation — and we’re just as happy knowing she’s comfortable, saving energy, and finally enjoying that extra space in her basement.
