Oil Furnace Troubleshooting Tips

Troubleshooting Tips for an Oil Furnace In Havertown, PADo you have an oil furnace? Is it leaving you out in the cold this Winter?  Here are some easy troubleshooting tips to help you figure out what’s wrong and whether you need to call someone, like the experts here and John Cipollone Inc.!

  1. Make sure your thermostat is on Heating and set above room temperature. So if it’s 70 degrees in the house, set the thermostat to 72 or 73 degrees.
  2. Make sure the switch in the heater is on as well. Sometimes turning it off for 5 minutes and turning it back on can help reset the system.
  3. Check the emergency switch. There is often a red emergency switch located somewhere away from the heater, often near the steps down into the basement. Make sure this is on as well. – Sometimes it can get hit by accident, so be sure to check this one!

If all the switches are on and your thermostat is set above room temperature and you are still not getting any heat, try these steps:

  1. Access your burner and hit the reset button. You’ll have to take the main door off your furnace. There are several different ways to take the door off- some systems have handles, while others have clips and you have to turn them and then pull the door away to get it off. Follow the oil lines to your burner, and look for the reset button. Hit once only. Your system should restart.
